Smokey Bear

Go to Smokey the Bear's official web site and sign the pledge to help stop wildfires!

Although most of us have no intention of setting a fire that could burn down hundreds of homes and millions of acres of forest, every year there are devasting wildfires caused by careless behavior.

In 2007 alone, 12,261 wildfires were caused by lightning while 73,446 wildfires were caused by human error.

Common ways you could unintentionally start a wildfire:

*Unattended debris burning

*Equipment fires such as from lawnmowers, ATV's, and more

*Smoking

*Unattended campfires

*children playing with matches or lighters

*Fireworks

Let Smokey teach you the basics of wildfire, the fire's natural role, and how fire itself is often the best defense against wildfires.
